TIPS AND HINTS #2

FOR BUILDING AND FINISHING CITY CLASSICS KITS

Gas Station and Diner Decals

Microscale Industries produces a number of decal sets designed to fit perfectly on our gas station and diner kits. We believe these are the most accurate and comprehensive sets of their type ever produced for the model railroading hobby. Everything a modeler needs to accurately finish a service station model is included in each set. The painting diagrams in each set are almost worth the price themselves.

Current sets include:

HO SCALE
87-853
Gas Station Detail Signs 1945+

This set does not feature any particular brand

name, however, it contains many signs not

included on any other set (pump faces, restroom

signs, etc.) in the series. We recommend using this

set with all of the sets listed below

87-874   Texaco & Flying A signs 1949-60

This set has been discontinued, but it may still be

              found in some store inventories.

87-902    Gulf Gas Station Signs 1936-63

87-938    Mobil Gas Station Signs 1940-66

87-959    Esso Gas Station Signs 1946-65

87-969    Sinclair Gas Station Signs 1935-60

87-993    Shell Gas Station Signs 1935-60

87-1002  Ashland & Pepper Gas Station Signs 1924-60

87-1017  Atlantic Gas Station Signs 1935-60

You’ll find that our signs for Gas Stations #501-4 also have a variety of signs that will enhance the appearance of your model.

The diner decal sets shown below contain everything you need to take your City Classics diner to the next level of detail! They include colored striping, a variety of names and window signs to finish your model. These sets are so nice that we suggest looking at both of them before making your choice!

87-983    Diners #2 1950+

N SCALE

The same sets shown above are available in N scale.

The part numbers are prefixed with “60” instead of “87”

You’ll also find that our set of Signs for Eating and Drinking Establishments #501-1 contain a variety of signs suitable for use in the windows of your diner.

City Streets

We often get questions about how the streets are made on our display. If you want our tips on making city streets, just e-mail us  at ctyclsscs@aol.com and ask for “Easy City Street Tips.” We’ll e-mail them back as quickly as possible.

They are only available in e-mail format at this time.

This photo shows one of our #108 Crafton Ave. Service Station kits finished with Microscale decal set 87-938. This set, like most of them, includes every-thing you need to finish a station in the correct paint scheme for that brand gasoline.

The realistic looking concrete surface was made using the “Easy City Street” techniques mentioned above.
